After a lot of teasing, rumors, and leaks, the Poco M8 and Poco M8 Pro are finally about to become official, and the brand has a live stream up already for the grand unveiling – it’s embedded below for your viewing pleasure.
The launch event starts on January 8 at 16:00 in China, which is 13:30 in India, 8:00 in the UK, and 9:00 in Central Europe.
The Poco M8 is already officially confirmed to come with a 6.77-inch 3D curved OLED screen with 1080×2392 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 3,200-nit peak brightness, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC at the helm, 8GB of RAM, a 50MP main rear camera using the Light Fusion 400 “large aperture” sensor which supports 2x in-sensor zoom, a 20MP selfie camera, and a 5,520 mAh battery.
It will be offered in Carbon Black, Glacial Blue, and Frost Silver. It weighs 178g and is 7.35mm thin, and comes with MIL-STD-810 certifications for withstanding extreme heat, dust, and shocks, with drop testing up to 1.7m. The most disappointing thing is that it will launch with HyperOS 2.0, probably based on Android 15, even though an update to HyperOS 3.0 based on Android 16 is promised to arrive soon. Speaking of promises, it will get four major Android updates (so it will end its life on Android 19), as well as six years of security updates.
Based on past leaks, the Poco M8 Pro has a 6.83-inch quad-curved AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on top, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 SoC, a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide, a 32MP selfie camera, and a 6,500 mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging.
If all of these specs sound eerily familiar, it’s because the M8 seems to be identical to the Redmi Note 15 5G save for a different main camera, and the M8 Pro is identical to the Redmi Note 15 Pro+, again, with the one exception being the different main camera.
