Huawei’s Mate 70 series’ top tier is here – meet the Mate 70 Pro+ and Mate 70 RS. Both are more than just a flashier version of the Mate 70 Pro – they feature larger batteries, more premium materials, and more RAM.
The Mate 70 Pro+ may be better than the Pro, but it’s not as good as the RS in its own right, so let’s break it down.
The Mate 70 Pro+ has a rear panel that is a mix of gold threads and brocade fiber. The nylon material is very durable and Huawei says it’s adept at dealing with impacts. The textured surface catches the light in dazzling star rings that shine brightly.
The frame is made of a Titanium alloy that Huawei calls a high-brightness basalt (a dark fine-grained volcanic rock that sometimes displays a columnar structure) structure that’s very strong, as well as scratch and drop resistant. The body is IP69 resistant as well.
The screen is a 6.9-inch 2832x1316px LTPO 120Hz OLED with 2,500 nits of peak brightness and second-gen Kunlun Glass on top. The screen incorporates a 3D face scanner, while the fingerprint scanner has been relegated to the side of the phone.
Huawei Mate 70 Pro+
We hypothesize that on the inside, the Mate 70 Pro+ uses a Kirin 9100 chipset, made up of all Cortex cores. Rumor has it, the SoC is a 6nm unit, and that it uses a Cortex-X1 core (at 2.67GHz), Cortex-A78 cores (at 2.32GHz), and Cortex-A55 cores (at 2.02GHz). The Mate 70 Pro+ packages 16GB of RAM as standard. An Ark Engine is in charge of overall smoothness and performance.
There are three cameras on the back of the Mate 70 Pro+ – a main 50MP RYYB sensor with a 24mm variable f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture lens. Next to it is a 13mm f/2.2 ultrawide with a 40MP RYYB sensor, a 4x 92.5mm f/2.1 telephoto with close-focusing abilities, and a 48MP RYYB sensor. All cameras have autofocusing. There’s a 13MP f/2.4 selfie upfront.
Finally, the Mate 70 Pro+ has a 5,700mAh battery (200mAh more than the 70 and 70 Pro) with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.
Onto the Huawei Mate 70 RS. It too comes clad in ‘high-brightness titanium’ but it also adds a better display and glass. The screen is the same 6.9-inch diagonal, 120Hz LTPO tech, and FHD+ resolution, but it’s a dual-layer OLED that achieves a higher 3,500 nits peak brightness. It’s also covered with stronger ‘Basalt tempered Kunlun glass’.
Huawei Mate 70 RS
The rest of the Mate 70 RS specs match the 70 Pro+ – a 5,700mAh battery, 16GB of RAM, 512GB or 1TB of storage, triple rear camera. Both phones run HarmonyOS 4.3 and come with Baidu Satellite Connectivity.
The Mate 70 Pro+ comes in four colors – Ink Black, Feather White, Gold and Silver Brocade, and Flying Blue – and two configurations – 16/512GB and 16GB/1TB. Prices are CNY 8,499 (€1,120, INR 99,000, converted) and CNY 9,499 (€1,250, INR 110,600).
The Mate 70 RS is available in Red, White, and Black and in 16/512GB or 16GB/1TB. Prices are CNY 11,999 (€1,580, INR 139,800) and CNY 12,999 (€1,710, INR 151,500).
Both phones are up for pre-order today and will ship on December 19.
