Samsung made the decision to cancel the Galaxy S26 Edge pretty late in the development process and it replaced it with the Galaxy S26+. However, since work on the S26+ started late, the company is now scrambling to get it done. Insiders speaking to Korean publication The Elec have revealed some last-minute changes.

Apparently, Samsung was initially planning on taking the new display panel that it had developed for the S26 Edge and using it on the Plus model. Then it decided against that, which left it with no time for a replacement part, so the S26+ will use an almost identical panel to that of the Galaxy S25+. It should use a new glass, though.

The vanilla Galaxy S26 is getting a new display – it will reportedly measure 6.27”, making it 0.11” bigger than the 6.16” panel on the outgoing Galaxy S25. Maybe the S26 Edge panel would have been bigger – last year’s S25+ and S25 Edge both used 6.7” panels. Or maybe the company had other upgrades in store, we may never know.

The Elec’s report has other interesting info. The Galaxy S26 Ultra went into mass production last month. This is in part because it was the phone it was always meant to be (unlike the other two, which replace the planned S26 Edge and S26 Pro, respectively), but also because Samsung chose to prioritize securing components for the Ultra.

Right now the production targets are 3.6 million Ultras, 700,000 vanilla phones and 600,000 Plus models. These targets will be adjusted in February – Samsung will reportedly target higher volumes for the vanilla and Plus models while dialing back production for the Ultra.

The Galaxy S26 series is expected to be unveiled on February 25, a month later than the S25 series last year. Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the date, however.
