Rugged HMD Terra M is now available in Europe

HMD semi-announced the Terra M rugged phone back in November, and now the company is sharing more details about it, as it’s becoming available in select European markets. HMD says this is “more than a device”, it’s in fact “a fully managed communications ecosystem designed for operational excellence from day one”.

It’s designed “purposefully for professional workers who rely on durable, reliable, secure connectivity on the job — from hospitals and construction sites to airports, security teams and first responders”, according to the official press release. It’s IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810H rated, and comes with a 2.8″ glove-friendly touchscreen, a 2,510 mAh battery, large physical keys, loud high output audio, 4G connectivity, and dual SIM/eSIM support with hotspot mode.

The Terra M is delivered as a fully managed communications solution, not just a device, pairing affordable durable design with enterprise-ready services that enable organizations to “build communication centric operations with a single platform”. It’s promised to receive five years of quarterly security updates.

The Terra M “combines low-cost IoT SIM and eSIM connectivity with professional Push-to-Talk (PTT) over cellular, secure communications and device management”. Connectivity plans for it are available from Lyfo, “delivering resilient service through intelligent network switching across carriers to ensure reliable coverage across borders and in remote or high-risk environments”.

HMD’s enterprise customers can deploy the Terra M with Mobile Device Management solutions from Springdel and SOTI, with new partners to be announced soon. PTT services are provided by Zello and Mobile Tornado, providing secure, interoperable group communications with dedicated programmable and emergency hardware keys.

The phone also supports Threema for end-to-end encrypted messaging, Joplin for secure note-taking and knowledge management, and OsmAnd for privacy-first online and offline navigation for those operating in disconnected or restricted environments. New subscribers to the Joplin Cloud can get 15% off the first year with the promo code HMDTERRAM, which will remain valid for three months from now. You can also get a 30% discount on Threema Work and Threema OnPrem if your purchase is made before the end of April.
