Here comes the Realme GT8, riding on the coattails of the GT8 Pro. The pair made their official debut in China today, and while the vanilla is similar in looks and on paper, there are some subtle differences.
For starters, the camera island isn’t customizable, so you’d better pick the one you like up front. The GT8 ships in white, green, and blue, just like the Pro. The green has a micro-texture finish, while the other two are matte.
The Realme GT8 packs 2024’s Snapdragon 8 Elite instead of the Elite Gen 5 inside the GT8 Pro. Another difference is in the 7,000mAh battery, which takes slower 100W wired charging (vs 120W), but is still only 2 minutes behind the Pro to 100% at 45 min. You don’t get wireless charging, though.
The vanilla has seemingly the same 6.79-inch 1440p AMOLED with a 144Hz LTPO panel and up to 2,000 nits of high brightness (and a whopping 4,000 nits of peak brightness).
But the Realme GT8 packs a technically inferior camera system. The main camera is the same 50MP 1/1.56-inch sensor with a 22mm f/1.8 lens, and it’s still tuned by photography nobility Ricoh. You get Ricoh’s color science with different shooting modes like Hi-contrast B&W, Monotone, and Standard. Ricoh cameras are known for their sharp photos and natural colors, and contrast.
But the other cameras are different. The zoom is a 50MP unit (not 200MP) and has a longer-reaching 80mm f/2.8 lens. This may be more of a different unit than an inferior one, per se.
The ultrawide is an 8MP with a smaller sensor, and the ultrawide has only half the resolution at 16MP.
The Realme GT8 boots Android 16-based Realme UI 7.0. The camera app has seen a redesign fitting the phone’s Ricoh collaboration.
The Realme GT8 is on sale in China from today in a variety of configurations.
