After a few teasers, Nothing has officially unveiled its Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0. The new release brings an updated visual interface that’s still distinctly Nothing alongside a slew of minor changes, including a reimagined lock screen. Nothing says it is focused on bringing an even more simplified and functional experience to its users with the latest release.
Nothing OS 4.0 features a redesigned Quick Settings toggle, which is less cluttered and features new, wider format tiles for certain items. Alongside the visual changes, Nothing is bringing an updated dark mode with enhanced contrast for a sleeker look. The screen brightness slider is now more responsive, and Nothing is also bringing additional Always-on Display (AOD) options.

The new update also brings support for two floating app icons for faster multitasking and switching between apps. The new app optimization feature brings more responsive and smooth app launches. Nothing is also issuing an updated camera app interface and a “smarter” gallery app featuring additional controls, presets and a more intuitive layout. There’s also a new dashboard that tracks your AI usage.

Nothing OS 4.0 first look
As for the release, Nothing OS 4.0 open beta is “coming soon”. The Nothing Phone (3) should be the first in line, followed by older Nothing and CMF devices. We also know that the Phone (1) will not receive Nothing OS 4.0 as it has already been confirmed to reach the end of its software support lifecycle.
