An intriguing new rumor today confirms that there will be an iPhone Air 2 (even though it may only arrive in spring 2027), and it will add a second camera. This was first rumored last month, and it’s nice to get a ‘confirmation’ of sorts (as much as any rumor can count as that).
While today’s report doesn’t mention what the second camera will be, the rumor from November did – an ultrawide. That kind of makes sense since the main camera can crop zoom to 2x with decent results, but there’s no way for it to simulate a wider field of view.
The iPhone Air 2 is also said to be cheaper than its predecessor in the US, which would be quite shocking – first of all, because phones have only become more and more expensive over the years, never cheaper; and second because this is Apple we’re talking about, and the company really likes its profit margins.
So color us skeptical on this one. The iPhone Air starts at $999, so if the Air 2 is to be cheaper, it will probably end up starting at $899 since Apple doesn’t really like $50 increments for iPhone pricing. That price cut, if it does happen, when paired with the addition of a second camera, and presumably a bigger battery, might help make the iPhone Air 2 more appealing than its predecessor. Only time will tell.
