Honor unveiled the Magic8 Pro Air and the Magic8 RSR Porsche Edition in China yesterday. Alongside the new smartphones, the company also introduced the Watch GS 5, which succeeds the Watch GS 3.
The Honor Watch GS 5 gets a 1.32-inch circular AMOLED display with 1,500 nits of brightness. It gets a 44mm case made from an aluminum alloy, whereas the back uses a reinforced polymer fiber.
The smartwatch weighs just 26g, measures 9.9mm in thickness, has a single side button, and carries an IP68 rating along with 5ATM water resistance. It can be paired with black or khaki leather straps.
Honor claims that the Watch GS 5 is the only smartwatch in the industry to support research for sudden cardiac arrest screening while also offering cardiovascular risk assessment. The company adds that its research team can provide telephone follow-ups for users identified as high risk.
The watch provides early warnings for conditions such as atrial fibrillation, sleep apnea, premature beats, and irregular heart rhythms, while also offering 24/7 health monitoring for blood oxygen levels, stress, sleep HRV, and heart rate.
It packs a 495mAh silicon-carbon battery that is claimed to deliver up to 23 days of usage without always-on display (AOD) and up to 9 days with AOD.
The Watch GS 5 supports Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and five satellite positioning systems, and includes a built-in microphone and speaker for Bluetooth calling. It also packs 4GB of internal storage and is compatible with smartphones running Android 6.0 or later, as well as iOS 9.0 and above.
The smartwatch is currently available for pre-orders in China and will go on sale starting January 23. It is priced at CNY 699 ($100).
